Η σειρά Ο Μάντης έκανε την εμφάνισή της στην πλατφόρμα του Netflix το 2017. Πρόκειται για μια αστυνομική σειρά έξι επεισοδίων, με αρκετά στοιχεία τρόμου. Δημιουργοί της υπήρξαν οι Alice Chegaray-Breugnot, Nicolas Jean, Grégoire Demaison και Laurent Vivier. Την σκηνοθεσία ανέλαβε ο Alexandre Laurent και την μουσική παραγωγή ο François Lietout. Βασικοί πρωταγωνιστές οι Carole Bouquet, Jaques Weber, Julien Tortora, Pascal Demolon, Yannick Samot Fredérique Bel Elodie Navarre κ.α.
Υπόθεση
Το παρελθόν
25 χρόνια πριν, μια γυναίκα διέπραξε οχτώ ανατριχιαστικούς φόνους. Τα θύματα ήταν άνδρες που κακοποιούσαν τις γυναίκες και τα παιδιά τους. Κάθε θάνατος ήταν διαφορετικός, ακολουθώντας μορφή ιεροτελεστίας. Μια δολοφονική ιεροτελεστία που θύμιζε κατά πολύ το αλογάκι της Παναγίας ή αλλιώς τον Μάντη. Η Jeanne Deber, είναι Ο Μάντης.
Το παρόν
25 χρόνια μετά, η δολοφόνος κατά συρροή, βρίσκεται στην απομόνωση και η ταυτότητά της κρύβεται καλά. Βασική προϋπόθεση για την ομολογία της, αποτέλεσε η προστασία του τότε ανήλικου γιου της, από τον στιγματισμό. Και ενώ οι ζωές όλων φαίνεται να έχουν προχωρήσει, μια νέα σειρά αποτρόπαιων φόνων, έρχεται να ταράξει τους πάντες. Ένας μιμητής – Μάντης, εκτελεί με την ίδια σειρά, τεχνική και μίσος, τα θύματά του. Η αστυνομία, μη μπορώντας να ανακαλύψει τον δολοφόνο, ζητάει τη βοήθεια της Jeanne, προτού εκείνος ολοκληρώσει και τους οκτώ φόνους. Είναι η μόνη που μπορεί να αποκωδικοποιήσει τις ενέργειες και να σταματήσει τη βαναυσότητα που διεγείρει τον μιμητή της. Εκείνη δέχεται υπό έναν όρο: ο διαμεσολαβητής θα είναι ο ίδιος της ο γιος, Demien.
Ο Demien, είναι αρχηγός της αστυνομίας, οικογενειάρχης και βαθιά οργισμένος με το παρελθόν του. Με τη βοήθεια του Μάντη, θα προσπαθήσει να παγιδεύσει τον δολοφόνο. Μια σειρά συγκλονιστικών αποκαλύψεων θα έρθουν στην επιφάνεια. Ποιος είναι ο serial killer και γιατί σκοτώνει; Τι κοινό υπάρχει ανάμεσα σε αυτόν και τον Μάντη; Μήπως εκείνος καθοδηγείται μέσα από εκείνη; Το παρελθόν κρύβει όλες τις απαντήσεις.
Ποιος είναι όμως ο πραγματικός Μάντης;
Η σειρά Ο Μάντης, δεν φέρει τον τίτλο από κάποια μαντική ικανότητα του δολοφόνου. Αντιθέτως, η απάντηση είναι πιο περίπλοκη. Φαντάζομαι πως όλοι γνωρίζουμε το Αλογάκι της Παναγίας. Αυτό το χαριτωμένο, πανέμορφο και καταπράσινο έντομο που στη θέα του, απλά θες να το θαυμάσεις και να το φωτογραφίσεις. Όμως είσαι σίγουρος πως ξέρεις την αληθινή φύση του; Το περίφημο Αλογάκι της Παναγίας, με μήκος έως επτά εκατοστά, έχει την επιστημονική ονομασία Mantis Religioza ή αλλιώς Μάντης. Στη φύση, θεωρείται ένα από τα πιο αιμοβόρα έντομα με δολοφονικά ένστικτα.
Το τελετουργικό του Μάντη
Ας δούμε τα πράγματα όμως πιο αναλυτικά. Ο Μάντης φημίζεται για την ικανότητα να στοχεύει και να εγκλωβίζει τα θύματά του σε ασύλληπτα γρήγορους ρυθμούς. Τα μακριά πόδια του, αγκαλιάζουν το θήραμα, στερώντας κάθε περιθώριο διαφυγής. Το θηλυκό είναι διπλάσιο σε μέγεθος από το αρσενικό και πιο επιθετικό. Κατά τη διάρκεια του ζευγαρώματος, την ώρα που το αρσενικό εκσπερματώνει και αφήνεται πιο χαλαρό, το θηλυκό το αποκεφαλίζει. Στη συνέχεια το καταβροχθίζει, παίρνοντας πίσω την ενέργεια που σπατάλησε κατά τη διάρκεια της ερωτικής πράξης. Τρώγοντας το σώμα του αρσενικού, παίρνει τις πρωτεΐνες που χρειάζεται για να θρέψει τους απογόνους. Μετά τον αποκεφαλισμό, η συνουσία συνεχίζεται για μερικά δευτερόλεπτα. Το αρσενικό γνωρίζει τι θα συμβεί, για αυτό και υπάρχουν φορές που αποκολλάται σύντομα, ώστε να γλιτώσει.
Ένας Μάντης αριστοτεχνικά σκηνοθετημένος
Η σειρά Ο Μάντης, κινείται στα χνάρια διακεκριμένων θρίλερ, θυμίζοντας κάτι από το Seven. Γρήγορος ρυθμός, μυστήριο, δράση και αγωνία ακόμη και μέχρι την τελευταία σκηνή. Οι ανατροπές διαδέχονται η μία την άλλη, με ένα φινάλε εντελώς απρόβλεπτο. Ένα καλλιτεχνικό θρίλερ, που δίνει έμφαση στην ποιότητα των ηθοποιών, της σκηνοθεσίας, του σεναρίου αλλά και της φωτογραφίας. Μια σκηνοθεσία βάναυση, ανατριχιαστική, με θεσπέσιο φωτισμό και ωμή βία. Ιδιαίτερα παραστατικός ο τρόπος που πραγματοποιούνται τα εγκλήματα, προσφέροντας ισχυρές δόσεις τρόμου. Λεπτομέρειες στις περιγραφές, έξυπνη χρήση κάμερας, εξαιρετικά εφέ που βοηθούν στην ανάδειξη μιας σκληρής όψης. Ο ίδιος ο Stephen King, είχε δηλώσει πως η σειρά Ο Μάντης ανακαλύπτει νέες πτυχές της βιαιότητας.
Δεσμοί αίματος
Πως θα μπορούσε ένα αριστουργηματικό θρίλερ να μην έχει το κατάλληλο καστ; Η Carole Bouquet ως Μάντης καθηλώνει. Το ψυχρό, έντονο βλέμμα σε συνδυασμό με την πυγμή του λόγου της, ανατριχιάζει. Μια εξαιρετική ηθοποιός που υφαίνει με τον μοναδικό της τρόπο την επιτυχία της σειράς. Παράλληλα η σχέση μητέρας – γιου, είναι αυτή που αγγίζει το κοινό. Μια ιστορία που στιγμάτισε τα παιδικά χρόνια του Demien, καταστρέφοντας την αθώα παιδική ψυχή του. Μια μητέρα που στην προσπάθειά της να αποδώσει δικαιοσύνη, έχασε το μόνο πράγμα για το οποίο νοιάστηκε ποτέ. Η επανένωσή τους μοιάζει αδύνατη. Η απουσία τρυφερότητας, οικειότητας, άνεσης σε συνδυασμό με ένα τεράστιο χάσμα σκέψης και δράσης, τους απομακρύνει. Και όμως, πόσο πιθανό είναι μια μητέρα να κρατηθεί μακριά από το παιδί της; Ακόμη και αν όλα μοιάζουν να έχουν τελειώσει, η ελπίδα πεθαίνει πάντα τελευταία.
Αναζητώντας την ωμή πραγματικότητα
Ο Μάντης, αποτέλεσε μια εξαιρετική σειρά, τόσο σεναριακά όσο σκηνοθετικά και υποκριτικά. Τα έξι επεισόδια, βαδίζουν σε ένα σκοτεινό και ψυχρό μονοπάτι με εναλλαγές ανάμεσα σε συναισθήματα και επιλογές. Τα άγρια ανθρώπινα ένστικτα, σε συνδυασμό με τα προσωπικά απωθημένα και τραύματα, θίγουν ζητήματα γύρω από τη ζωή. Η ρεαλιστική και ωμή πραγματικότητα που πασχίζει να βγει στην επιφάνεια, βυθίζοντας μια για πάντα το όνειρο. Κοιτώντας πίσω, είναι αδύνατο να προχωρήσεις μπροστά. Τι γίνεται όμως, αν αυτό αποτελεί τον μοναδικό τρόπο για τη λύτρωση; Όσο και αν προσπαθείς να καταπνίξεις το παρελθόν, εκείνο ξεπετάγεται μέσα από τις χαραμάδες. Και όταν θα συναντήσει το παρόν, αυτό που θα συμβεί, θα ανατρέψει όσα ήξερες μέχρι τώρα. Είσαι έτοιμος να επιστρέψεις ξανά πίσω σε αυτό;
